Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fusily bendy-sinister Argent, Celeste and Sable, to sinister a lion rampant Or ducally crowned Gules; three rays conjoined Gules, Argent, Gules radiating from chief throughout, those Gules charged with a sword point up Or above in base a mullet Argent, the Argent charged in base with a mullet Azure. Below the shield is a Black scroll inscribed "QUALITY SERVICE FIRST" in Gold.

The shield highlights the partnership and cooperation of the 409th Support Battalion and Germany, location of the unit. The diamond background and the lion are adapted from German coats of arms. The wedge shape alludes to support and its stars and stripes, our National colors. The two swords represent military preparedness and the stars express the command and control aspects of the service performed by the battalion.
